Anvil Announces New Fire Protection Seismic Design Tool
Portsmouth, NH., (June 1, 2011) — Anvil® International, one of the largest and most complete manufacturers of pipe fittings, pipe hangers and piping support systems in the world, announced the launch of a fire protection seismic design tool to accompany its new line of fire sprinkler seismic bracing products. Anvil International is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products, Inc. (NYSE:MWA), a leading North American provider of water infrastructure products and services.
Anvil’s new tool allows engineers, architects and contractors to determine whether or not their fire protection bracing systems will meet their project’s seismic load requirements, and to automatically create project submittals. Unlike other seismic tools offered in the industry, Anvil’s tool will be provided free-of-charge on its website http://www.anvilintl.com/.
“We listened closely to the needs of the fire protection industry in developing a Seismic bracing offering as well as a software tool,” said Dean Taylor, Anvil’s vice president, sales and marketing. “Our goal is to partner with system designers to help them effectively use our seismic bracing products to meet their project requirements.”
Users of this web-based feature enter information about a project — including pipe schedule, system length and supporting structure material — and the tool calculates whether or not the system can support the required seismic load. The application also allows a system designer to test different bracing specifications in order to identify where they need to make adjustments.
The tool also calculates short period spectral acceleration (SDS), zone of influence, seismic design force factor and total system weight and incorporates NFPA 2002, NFPA 2010, IBC 2006, and IBC 2009 Codes.
At the end of the calculation process, a user is presented with a selection of pre-matched product groupings from Anvil’s new seismic bracing product line. A single click then automatically generates a product submittal sheet with figure numbers, images and specifications for each product. System designers will be able to save their submittals so they can edit or copy them for later use.
